What I'm looking at today: Horn

I like natural materials and especially things that are very common but become exotic when they're used in an odd way. These Victorian horn chairs aren't for everyone but, in the right space they'll be great.

Tow horn and silver mirrors....super chic and slightly mod.

What I'm looking at Today: Center Tables

Center Tables are always great. Doesn't matter what style although I am partial to neoclassical examples....and a few contemporary ones...I came across these .....the nice thing about them is that they can be used pretty much anywhere.

The cool table above is made of resin and looks like a cross between the Flinstones and Syrie Maugham .......I would use this in a really historic looking room.....maybe with French paneling.

A more modernist approach the straight lines and clean shape make this table very versatile .

This is an updated version of a classic form..... as the ones before all are from OLY Studio.

Grecian Rosewood Center table with gilt paws and lotus ebonized center column.
A more severe Regency table with beautiful wood grain.
A high style center table with a marble top and ebonized legs.

An Italian painted center table with great legs and a gorgeous Venetian red color. I wish I had places for all!

Beautiful Bedroom by Miles Redd

This is a lovely room done by Miles Redd. He's known for his bold use of color and high style pieces creating interesting juxstpositions. This Room at the Lee Jofa showroom in NYC shows his deft hand, the bottle green walls and jewel tones are stunning, add the traditional furniture and modern art and you've got an instant classic.

We've come a long way......bathrooms......

As I've been working on a few bathrooms lately, todays post is on that most essential of conveniences.......the loo....and have we come a long way.

Glamourous Bath featured in WOI a few years back. I especially love that it is modern in an antique shell.....kind of like me.

I like to approach bathrooms and bathroom renovations in a slightly different way than others...assuming you have the room a bath should be as elegant as any other room of your house. Simple natural materials are always best. Marble is classic but tile will do if you don't have the budget.....always remember to do away with anything that might be just a little ugly......you don't really need to 'decorate' anything if it's well designed....and always edit, edit, edit.

What I'm looking at today

Today I'm looking at some items that I really like. I'm a pushover for truncated columns, the only thing that would make these better, for me, is if they were porphyry.
I also really like little neoclassical tables with chippy gold leaf....I'm told this one is Swedish early 19c it's a very nice size, perfect for a narrow hall or entrance.

I like that this mirror is surmounted by a deer....usually you see eagles or dragons or dolphins....and it's a very nice size as well.

Lastly these really great, almost life size pair of Grand Tour deer....made in Naples and stamped, they're super.

Old Asbury Park....well at least as old as when we were there.

A while back we had a huge old house in Asbury Park. It was way too large for two guys with a cat and we just filled it with things we liked.....we weren't too worried about it being a little fancy for the Jersey Shore as there were quite a few fancier. Here's the Dining Room done up for a showhouse....and yes I did dust the leg..it's a reflection.

The Living Room looking from the Entrance Hall. I had gotten the round table at a thrift store and the silver bowl is actually a deco light fixture.

Our 'Saddam Hussein' room....it was during the Gulf War...#1 and we had an extra room that we never used so I went to Marshals and got remainder wallpaper...DIY and for $10!!!!!! yes you read right TEN dollars, excluding labor [ME] we had this nifty room....Ric hated it but our cat Sebastian was always napping there. The daybed is from Simon Ross and we had a coverlet that a client gave me back so we used that as upholstery....I think it was Clarence House.

This was our bathroom. I found the Directoire screen with my friend Vic during one of our recon missions to the various thrift stores and the chair and dressers, one of which we made into a sink came from one of the houses nearby that was being sold....the huge mirror came from the now defunct Asbury Park Auction House......you could find great stuff back then.
