It's always exciting to be asked to participate in events like Lenox Hill's storied Spring Gala. Not only is it for a good cause, it's also a test, as you are you expected to create a table that has to stand up against some past wonders; not only that, it has to work based on theme and above all be functional.
Our first table for the event took as it's inspiration from a trip to Venice where we encountered hidden garden gems thru open windows. Part Venetian carnival, part dreamscape the entire table revolves around 'Cutelopetrix Nest' a sculpture by Sasha Meret. A visit to his studio transports you to another realm, equal parts Jules Verne and impossibly beautiful and magical concoctions that sparkle all around.
We added a few clear Venetian glass vases and candlesticks and had a ball gown worthy tablecloth made from embroidered organza and cut silk flowers over a silver beaded base, we added a few simple flowers, anemones, Jack in the Pulpit and Hellbore. Low black candles in glass urns and silvered cups added a warm glow to the mostly silver scheme.
